Behind our furniture pieces there’s a long hardwood's, quiet journey, now one step closer to revealing its unique story in your space.
The Atelier Jorn Commitment
Atelier Jorn is an American design studio, crafting made to order modern furniture in solid hardwood. The guidelines below outline our process and what to expect at each stage.
We are not a mass produced, overstock, big box furniture brand governed by automated systems or rigid corporate policy.
Every project is personal, and every client is treated as a valued partner. Should an unexpected circumstance arise, we will review it individually, with the goal of finding a fair, thoughtful, and practical solution. Our commitment is simple: communicate openly, deliver exceptional service, and always do what's right for our clients.
1. The Art of Hardwood Furniture: What to Expect
Every Atelier Jorn piece is custom made to order and crafted from natural hardwood by skilled artisans. The beauty of our furniture pieces lies in its individuality, your piece is created specifically for your space.
1.1 The Handcrafted Experience
We create our furniture using furniture grade solid American hardwoods. Natural variations in grain, tone, texture, mineral patterns, knots, and character marks are not imperfections; they are inherent qualities of authentic hardwood and part of what makes each piece unique.
1.2 Handcrafted Individuality
Because our furniture is individually handcrafted rather than mass-produced, subtle variations in grain selection, shaping, joinery, and finishing may naturally occur as our craftspeople work with the unique character of each board.
These intentional variations celebrate the authenticity of handmade furniture and ensure that every piece possesses its own individual character.
1.3 Natural Wood Movement & Dimensions
Solid wood is a natural material that continues to respond to its environment. Due to natural expansion, contraction, and movement, minor dimensional variations may occasionally occur.
If your project requires exact measurements for architectural installations, built-ins, or highly precise applications, please communicate those requirements during the design process so dimensions can be documented and approved prior to production.
1.4 Digital Renderings, AI & The Finished Piece
To help bring your vision to life, Atelier Jorn may provide conceptual sketches, digital renderings, or AI-assisted visualizations during the design process.
These tools are intended to communicate overall proportions, style, and design direction. Because natural hardwood has depth, texture, grain variation, and warmth that cannot be perfectly represented digitally, the finished piece may differ slightly while remaining faithful to the approved design.
The true beauty of natural wood is experienced in person.
2. Order Management & Tailored Timelines
Every Atelier Jorn piece requires dedicated labor, carefully selected materials, and reserved workshop capacity. Unlike mass retail furniture, each order enters our production process specifically for one client and one project.
2.1 Our Made to Order Process
Once your design is finalized and production or material procurement begins, deposits and progress payments secure your place in our workshop schedule.
Because every piece is custom built exclusively for you, orders are generally considered non-refundable and final sale once production has commenced.
If unexpected circumstances arise, we encourage you to contact us. Whenever possible, we will work together to determine the most appropriate path forward.
2.2 Timelines & Craftsmanship
We understand that project schedules are important. However, we never compromise craftsmanship, proper finishing, or the natural curing process required to create quality hardwood furniture.
Lead times may occasionally adjust due to design complexity, custom requests, material availability, or production requirements. Your Atelier Jorn representative will provide updates throughout the process so you remain informed on your project's progress.
3. Dedicated Shipping & Logistics
We treat the journey of your furniture with the same care and attention that goes into building it.
3.1 Logistics Coordination
Atelier Jorn coordinates shipping throughout the continental United States and Canada.
For international clients, we are happy to assist with documentation and coordination between you and your preferred international shipping provider to help facilitate a smooth delivery process.
3.2 Protective Packaging
Because our furniture represents a significant investment in craftsmanship and materials, we do not rely on standard packaging methods for large pieces.
Most large furniture pieces are transported through specialized freight networks and secured inside custom-built wooden crates designed specifically for your order.
Smaller accessories and components are packaged using premium protective materials and reinforced cushioning to help ensure safe arrival.
3.3 Shipping Costs & Transit Times
Shipping cost is calculated individually based on the crate size, destination, delivery requirements, and services selected for your order.
Transit times vary depending on the carrier, destination, weather, and other transportation conditions. These factors are managed by independent freight carriers and are outside Atelier Jorn's direct control.
Once your order ships, we provide complete carrier information, tracking details, and available delivery updates so you can follow your shipment throughout its journey.
While we work with experienced logistics partners, carrier provided delivery estimates are not guaranteed.
3.4 Shipping Damage
Every Atelier Jorn piece is carefully inspected and professionally packaged before leaving our workshop.
Once an order has been released to an independent freight carrier, Atelier Jorn cannot be held responsible for damage or delays resulting from carrier handling.
If your shipment arrives with visible damage, please:
Photograph the packaging and damaged item.
Notify Atelier Jorn within 48 hours of delivery.
Retain all original packaging until the claim has been reviewed.
While carrier related damage is outside our direct responsibility, we will gladly help bridge the gap between you and the freight carrier by assisting with documentation, communication, and the claims process to help achieve a fair resolution.
4. Product Care & Warranty Support
4.1 Our Commitment to Quality
Atelier Jorn warrants that all products are free from defects in materials and structural workmanship at the time of delivery.
If you experience a concern related to the structural integrity or workmanship of your furniture, please contact us. We review each situation individually and are committed to providing a fair, helpful, and professional resolution.
4.2 Wood & Natural Movement
All Atelier Jorn hardwood undergoes careful air drying and kiln drying processes before fabrication to improve long term stability.
However, wood remains a natural material that continues to respond to changes in humidity and temperature. Minor movement, slight expansion or contraction, and small hairline checks are normal characteristics of genuine hardwood and are not considered manufacturing defects.
Maintaining a stable indoor environment with consistent humidity will help preserve the beauty and longevity of your furniture.
4.3 Caring for Your Furniture
Each Atelier Jorn piece includes straightforward care recommendations designed to preserve the natural beauty and character of your furniture for generations.
With proper care and maintenance, solid hardwood furniture develops a richer character over time and is designed to become a lasting part of your home.
Our studio remains available to answer questions regarding care, maintenance, and long term support throughout the life of your piece.
